Worlds 2026: Hanwha Life sweep G2 and LOS stun Team Liquid to keep Swiss hopes alive
Two champions went home in Allen on Friday, as Hanwha Life Esports swept G2 Esports 2-0 and Brazil's LOS beat Team Liquid 2-1 in a 47-minute decider. Both winners now face one final 2-2 series for a quarter-final place.

A brutal night for the West

The Swiss stage at the 2026 League of Legends World Championship delivered its cruellest twist yet in Allen, Texas, on Friday, when two of the West's champions were sent home in the same evening. Hanwha Life Esports swept G2 Esports 2-0, and Brazil's LOS edged Team Liquid 2-1, leaving both survivors one best-of-three series away from the Knockout Stage and both losers tied for 12th to 14th place, with 125,000 dollars each in prize money.
The results, played at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center, reshaped the final day of Swiss play. Only three quarter-final places remain. Five teams have already qualified: Gen.G and Dplus KIA at 3-0, plus T1, Invictus Gaming and TOP Esports at 3-1. Six teams enter Saturday at 2-2, and the winners of the three final series will complete the eight-team bracket.
For North America and Europe, the damage was immediate and symbolic. Team Liquid arrived as LCS champions. G2 arrived as LEC champions. Both left before the knockout rounds, in a tournament that has already seen the LPL champions, Anyone's Legend, eliminated by Team Liquid themselves. Insider Gaming described it bluntly as a terrible day for the West, and Europe is still guaranteed a quarter-finalist only because Movistar KOI meet Karmine Corp on Saturday.
Hanwha Life leave G2 with no answer

Hanwha Life Esports, the reigning MSI champions, did not merely beat G2. They controlled the series from the moment G2's early aggression failed to produce a lasting advantage. In game one, G2 tried to force the pace in the bottom lane, but Hanwha Life seized the initiative, turned top laner Zeus into an unkillable tank presence, and let jungler Kanavi punish every overextension. A crushing team fight near Baron broke the game open, and Hanwha Life closed it in 27 minutes with a 22-10 kill lead, according to players.com.ua.
Game two followed a similar pattern, even though G2 briefly found hope. BrokenBlade enjoyed early success on Camille against Zeus, but G2 could not hold their micro-advantage. Repeatedly, the European champions overestimated their strength in skirmishes, and Hanwha Life capitalised. Zeka's Swain dealt critical damage while surviving the moments that mattered most, allowing the Korean side to take total map control and finish the series in 26 minutes, 19-7 on kills.
Hanwha Life had entered the elimination round at 1-2 after losses to Gen.G and Invictus Gaming, and suddenly looked like the favourites they were expected to be. That reputation now faces its sternest test. On Saturday, Hanwha Life meet Bilibili Gaming, another side many tipped for a deep run. One of those supposed favourites will be eliminated. The other will reach the quarter-finals at 3-2.
LOS complete a 47-minute epic
If Hanwha Life's win was a statement of control, LOS's victory over Team Liquid was a test of nerve. The Brazilian side took game one in 29 minutes, with Curse dominating on Trundle and LOS winning the team fights cleanly to close with a 15-7 kill advantage.
Team Liquid responded like champions in game two. Yeon's aggressive Lucian, supported by CoreJJ on Nami, and decisive work from Josedeodo on Xin Zhao helped the North American side secure the Dragon Soul and Baron before finishing in 38 minutes. The series was level, the stakes were absolute, and the decider became an endurance contest.
The third game lasted 47 minutes. LOS seized an early advantage, but Team Liquid refused to fold. A stolen Dragon by Yeon and heroic defensive efforts kept the LCS champions alive far longer than the early game suggested they would survive. In the end, everything came down to one final battle for the Elder Dragon. LOS won that fight, removed the key enemy champions, and destroyed Team Liquid's Nexus with a 16-5 kill score.
It was one of the biggest upsets in recent Worlds history. LOS had already eliminated Team Secret Whales to reach this point, and had lost their opening Swiss games to T1 and G2. To then beat North America's top seed was a reversal few predicted. LOS are now the first Brazilian team to reach the fifth and final round of the Worlds Swiss stage, and they have already eliminated two North American teams.
What Saturday decides
Their reward is another chance to make history. On Saturday, LOS face LYON, giving Brazil the opportunity to complete a clean sweep of the North American representatives in this Swiss stage. A win would take LOS to 3-2 and into the quarter-finals. A loss would end a run that has already exceeded almost every outside expectation.
Context from the rest of Round 4 only sharpens those questions. TOP Esports beat Bilibili Gaming 2-1 to qualify, while Karmine Corp beat CTBC Flying Oyster 2-0 to stay alive. The Swiss format is unforgiving by design: three wins advance a team, three losses end its tournament, and there is no second chance once the third defeat arrives.
For G2 and Team Liquid, that finality is now real. Both teams leave Allen with the same placing and the same prize money, but with very different post-mortems. G2 were outclassed by a team rediscovering its best form. Team Liquid were beaten in a single, decisive fight after 47 minutes of resistance. For Hanwha Life and LOS, the reward is simpler and more dangerous: one more series, one more chance, and no margin for error at all.
