NOVA sweep back into VCT China with 3-0 Threshold final win
NOVA beat Unsettled Resentment 3-0 in Shanghai on 1 November to take VCT China's final 2027 guest spot.

NOVA are back in VCT China
NOVA Esports are back in VCT China. On 1 November in Shanghai, NOVA beat Unsettled Resentment 3-0 in the Week 2 grand final of the VCT 2026 China Threshold, taking the second and final guest spot for the 2027 season. It was an emphatic finish to a fortnight that had started with disappointment: NOVA lost one final, then won the next.
The scoreline tells the story of a one-sided final. NOVA took Lotus 13-5, Abyss 13-5 and Split 13-6, holding Unsettled Resentment to just 16 rounds across three maps and never allowing them past six rounds on a single map. NOVA closed the series without dropping a map.
A second chance taken at the second attempt
This was NOVA's second Threshold final in eight days, and the contrast is the heart of the story. In Week 1, NOVA beat Any Questions Gaming 2-1 in the quarter-finals and KeepBest Gaming 2-0 in the semi-finals, only to run into Dragon Ranger Gaming in the grand final on 25 October. Dragon Ranger Gaming won 3-0, taking Summit 13-8, Split 13-3 and Lotus 13-9, and claimed the first guest spot for 2027.
That defeat could have ended NOVA's hopes. Instead, the two-week structure gave them another route, and they took it. Unsettled Resentment had already shown they could win matches in this event, but on the day they could not match NOVA's pace or composure. Across the three maps, NOVA kept the pressure constant, and the series never looked like going the distance.
The winning roster was GuanG, swagzor, qiutiaN, Ezeir and cb. For an organisation reported among those left off the 2027-28 partner list, alongside FunPlus Phoenix, Titan Esports Club and Wolves Esports, the result changes the immediate future. Instead of planning a season outside the league, NOVA will start 2027 inside it.

What the Threshold is, and why it mattered
The Threshold ran over two weeks at THE HUB Performing Arts Center in Shanghai, from 21 October to 1 November, with twelve teams entered and each week's winner taking a guest place in the 2027 league. It was a second-chance tournament for organisations that had missed out on partnership and for challenger teams trying to break in: win your week, and you are in.
Dragon Ranger Gaming took the first place, and NOVA took the second. That completes the guest allocation and clarifies the shape of VCT China for 2027. The eight partner teams named in reporting on the league are EDward Gaming, JD Gaming, Bilibili Gaming, TYLOO, All Gamers, Trace Esports, Xi Lai Gaming and Weibo Gaming. Dragon Ranger Gaming and NOVA join them as the two guest teams, making a ten-team field.
That distinction matters. A guest spot is a one-season place, not a partnership. Holding on beyond 2027 will depend on results and on how Riot Games handles guest teams in the next cycle. NOVA have therefore bought themselves a season, not a permanent seat. The task now is to build form and make the case for staying.
A wider change in VALORANT
The Threshold also fits a wider change in VALORANT esports. For 2027, Riot is moving away from a league-only structure towards cups and open qualifiers, giving teams outside the partner group more routes in, but also more routes out. In China, the Threshold is the first sign of how that will work in practice: a fixed partner group, plus a small number of places that teams outside it have to win on the server.

What comes next for NOVA
For NOVA, the immediate prize is a 2027 season in VCT China rather than a year in the challenger scene. That brings regular matches against the region's best teams — and a different pressure, since a poor season can leave a guest team facing another qualification run.
There is a note of caution in how the story has been reported. The wider partner picture was reported by Sheep Esports and, at the time of TalkEsport's report on the final, had not been confirmed by Riot Games. That does not change the 3-0 result, but the full 2027 field should be treated as reported until Riot confirms it.
Even with that caveat, the sporting achievement stands on its own. NOVA lost a final on 25 October, came back a week later, and won the next one without dropping a map. In a sport where form can collapse after a heavy defeat, that recovery is the most impressive part of the run. The final itself was not close, but the journey to it was. NOVA are back in VCT China because they earned the last place available, and on 1 November in Shanghai, they earned it in style.
