Cowboys crush Eagles 38-21 as Prescott and Williams take over Monday night
Dak Prescott threw three touchdowns and Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155 yards as Dallas scored 18 unanswered points to beat Philadelphia.

The Dallas Cowboys walked into one of the loudest buildings in the NFL, absorbed Philadelphia's best early punch, trailed in the third quarter, and then took the game apart. Their 38-21 win over the Eagles on Monday Night Football at Lincoln Financial Field was not a shootout that happened to break their way; it was a second-half takeover, built on a career night from Javonte Williams, three touchdown passes from Dak Prescott, and a defence that gave Philadelphia nothing after the break.
A takeover, not a shootout
The numbers tell the shape of the night. Dallas outgained Philadelphia 416 yards to 321, ran for a season-high 204 yards, and did not turn the ball over once. Philadelphia, by contrast, scored 18 fewer points than Dallas after taking a 21-20 lead, and its offence stalled exactly when the game demanded a response. The Cowboys improved to 3-4, snapped a two-game losing run, and won a primetime game for the first time in four tries this season. The Eagles fell to 2-5, their fifth straight defeat and their longest skid since 2016.
Prescott was efficient rather than spectacular, and that was enough. He completed 15 of 27 passes for 212 yards, threw three touchdowns and no interceptions, and added the game's decisive two-point conversion with his legs. His first touchdown, a nine-yard strike to CeeDee Lamb, gave Dallas a 10-7 lead late in the first quarter. His second, a 21-yard dart to George Pickens, featured the toe-tap sideline catch that will lead the highlights, and his third, a 16-yard floater to Lamb in the corner of the end zone, turned a one-point deficit into a lead Dallas never surrendered.
Lamb finished with five catches for 74 yards and two touchdowns, a reminder of how much of Dallas's red-zone offence runs through him when the field shrinks. Pickens, operating at times from the slot, gave Prescott a second trusted target on the boundary, and the combination forced Philadelphia to defend the whole width of the field. That, in turn, opened the running lanes that decided the game. When a defence has to respect both Lamb inside and Pickens outside, it cannot simply stack the box, and Dallas exploited that hesitation all night.

The turning point
The star of the night, though, was Williams. He carried 25 times for a career-high 155 yards, averaging 6.2 yards per attempt, and capped the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run with 2:21 remaining. It was the first 150-yard rushing game by a Dallas player since Ezekiel Elliott in 2018, and it was not built on one long breakaway. Williams ran with patience behind his blockers, fell forward on contact, and kept Dallas ahead of the chains, which allowed Prescott to play from manageable down-and-distance for most of the second half.
Brandon Aubrey supplied the rest of the scoring, and his range changed Philadelphia's defensive maths. He kicked field goals from 55, 27 and 24 yards, the first opening the scoring, the second closing the first half to give Dallas a 20-14 lead, and the third stretching the advantage to 31-21 with 9:10 left in the fourth quarter. A kicker who can be trusted from 55 yards compresses the field for an offence, and Aubrey's consistency meant Dallas never had to force a fourth-down gamble in Philadelphia territory.
That belief peaked at the start of the second half. Tanner McKee, making his fourth NFL start, led a 17-play, 84-yard drive that consumed 9:16 of clock and ended with a four-yard touchdown pass to rookie Makai Lemon, the first score of Lemon's career, for a 21-20 Eagles lead. It was the kind of drive that is supposed to seize a primetime game: long, physical, methodical, and finished in the end zone. For a few minutes, Philadelphia looked like a team that had found an identity without Jalen Hurts.

What it means for the NFC East
The problem was what came next, or rather what did not. Dallas answered with Prescott's touchdown to Lamb and the two-point conversion run that made it 28-21, the game's sixth lead change and its last. From there, Dallas scored 18 unanswered points, Philadelphia's offence produced an interception to DeMarvion Overshown and a failed fourth down deep in its own territory, and the game slipped from competitive to comfortable. A 17-play drive is a statement; allowing 18 straight points in reply is an answer that ends the argument.
McKee finished 23 of 35 for 211 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Those are respectable numbers for a fourth start, but they do not capture the gap in the second half, when Dallas's defence tightened and Philadelphia's playmakers could not create separation. Barkley, used cautiously on his return, finished with nine touches for 71 scrimmage yards and his rushing touchdown, but he left with a back issue, according to reporting, and his workload reflected a coaching staff managing a star back into fitness rather than riding him to a win.
The context around Philadelphia is sobering, and it must be reported as context, not excuse. Jalen Hurts is out for the season with blood clots, a development the team learned about one week earlier, and Philadelphia is now 3-6 without Hurts since he became the starter in 2021. DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks sat out this game, and Lane Johnson retired earlier this year. That is a lot of proven production missing from one offence, and McKee, however composed, is being asked to carry a team that was built around a different quarterback.
