Nylander Hits 300 as Maple Leafs Rout Oilers 7-2
Toronto scored four third-period goals at Rogers Place, with William Nylander's empty-netter sealing his 300th NHL goal and a fourth straight win.

EDMONTON — The Toronto Maple Leafs waited until the third period to turn a solid road performance into a rout, scoring four times in the final frame to beat the Edmonton Oilers 7-2 at Rogers Place on Saturday night and stretch their winning streak to four games.
William Nylander supplied the headline and the exclamation point. He scored twice in the third period, the second into an empty net with 2:04 remaining, to reach 300 goals in the NHL. The milestone goal capped Toronto's four-goal period and sealed the most emphatic win of the Maple Leafs' young season.

Toronto improved to 7-4-2 with its fourth straight victory, the club's first four-game winning streak since January. Edmonton fell to 8-2-1, its three-game winning streak ending in front of a home crowd that had little to cheer after the opening minutes of the third period.
Jack Roslovic opened the scoring at 14:16 of the first period. Easton Cowan drove the net on a two-on-one, Tristan Jarry stopped the initial shot, and Roslovic got his stick to the rebound before Jake Walman inadvertently knocked the loose puck into his own net. It was a fitting goal for Roslovic, who spent last season with Edmonton before signing with Toronto as a free agent on July 1.

Auston Matthews doubled the lead at 5:29 of the second period, taking a pass from Cowan and beating Jarry on a two-on-one. Fifty-four seconds later, Troy Stecher made it 3-0. Stecher, who played parts of three seasons with Edmonton, started the play with a lead pass to Kirill Marchenko, followed it up the ice, and finished Marchenko's return feed from the slot.
Edmonton refused to fold. Leon Draisaitl cut the deficit to 3-1 at 19:04 of the second period during four-on-four play, taking a drop pass from Connor McDavid and scoring through a screen from above the circles. It was the first of two goals on the night for the Oilers' star centre, and it kept the game within reach heading into the final period.
That reach proved short-lived. Nylander restored Toronto's three-goal cushion at 5:59 of the third, one-timing a pass from Darren Raddysh at the left face-off dot for a power-play goal. Zack MacEwen then extended the lead to 5-1 at 13:39, batting his own rebound out of the air and over Jarry's shoulder for his first goal as a Maple Leaf.
Draisaitl answered again at 16:35, scoring on the power play off a pass from McDavid behind the net to make it 5-2. The response lasted barely more than a minute. Nylander shot into the empty net at 17:56 for goal number 300, and Vinni Lettieri added the final goal from the left circle with 31 seconds left, completing Toronto's four-goal third period.
Nylander's milestone puts him in rare company. His second goal moved him past Rick Vaive, who scored 299 times for Toronto, into sixth place on the franchise's all-time goals list. Nylander became the sixth player to score 300 goals with the Maple Leafs, and he reached the mark in 763 games, making him the fourth-fastest Swedish player in NHL history to do so, behind Tomas Sandstrom, Mats Sundin and Filip Forsberg.
The supporting cast mattered as much as the milestone. Roslovic finished with a goal and an assist, Marchenko recorded two assists, and Matthews, Stecher, MacEwen and Lettieri all scored. MacEwen's goal was his first in the NHL since October 2024, while Lettieri's was his first since April 2025.
Anthony Stolarz made 30 saves to earn his fourth win of the season. Edmonton generated chances early, but Toronto's defensive structure held firm until Draisaitl's late power-play goal. The Maple Leafs had killed 40 of their first 41 penalties this season, including 30 in a row, before that late breakthrough.
For Edmonton, the defeat did not erase the form of its two biggest stars. Draisaitl's two goals were his 11th and 12th of the season, tying him with Minnesota's Kirill Kaprizov for the NHL goals lead. It was Draisaitl's third consecutive two-goal game and extended his goal-scoring streak to six games, during which he has scored nine times.
McDavid, meanwhile, had two assists to extend his season-opening points streak to 11 games, a run in which he has now recorded 33 points (eight goals, 25 assists). That single line tells the story of Edmonton's season so far: even in a five-goal defeat, its captain still produced, and its top centre still scored twice. The problem on Saturday was everything around them.
Tristan Jarry made 25 saves for Edmonton, but he was under sustained pressure as the game wore on, particularly in a third period in which Toronto outscored the hosts 4-1. The Oilers had won three in a row coming in, but they never found the sustained level that had carried them through that stretch.
Both teams turn quickly to Monday night. Toronto continues its road trip with a visit to the Calgary Flames, while Edmonton returns home to host the Detroit Red Wings. The Maple Leafs will arrive in Calgary with a winning streak and a milestone scorer. Edmonton will arrive at its next game knowing its stars are still producing — and that, on Saturday at least, that was not nearly enough.
