UFC Vegas 124 Weigh-Ins: Cortes-Acosta Outweighs Walker by 23 Pounds as All 28 Hit the Scales
All 28 fighters made weight for UFC Vegas 124, with Waldo Cortes-Acosta outweighing Johnny Walker by 23 pounds.

Friday at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas ended exactly how the UFC wanted it to end: quietly. All 28 fighters booked for UFC Vegas 124 stepped on the scales on 6 November and every one of them made weight, leaving Saturday's 14-bout card intact, with no fines, no catchweights and no late changes to announce. The official weigh-in window opened at noon Eastern time, and by the time it closed the card was official from the heavyweight main event down to the opening prelim.
A drama-free Friday at the scales
Perfect weigh-in days are rare in a sport built on cutting weight, and this one mattered more than most because the card had already been reshaped once. The original headliner, a welterweight fight between Sean Brady and Gabriel Bonfim, fell apart when Brady suffered an injury, and the promotion rebuilt the top of the card around a short-notice heavyweight fight. One missed weight would have forced another change with less than a day to go. Instead, all 28 fighters hit their marks, the fighters completed their final faceoffs on Friday afternoon, and the event heads into Saturday exactly as advertised, with the prelims starting at 5 p.m. Eastern time and the main card at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Paramount+.
A 23-pound gap at the top
The numbers told the story of the main event before either man said a word. Waldo Cortes-Acosta weighed in at 262 pounds, while Johnny Walker came in at 239 pounds, a gap of 23 pounds between the two heavyweights who will headline Saturday night. Both men were comfortably inside the 266-pound limit for a non-title heavyweight fight, so the difference is a matter of size and style rather than any drama on the scales. Cortes-Acosta, ranked sixth in the heavyweight division, carries the frame of a natural heavyweight and the record to match it at 17 wins and 4 losses. Walker, at 23 wins, 10 losses and 1 no contest, is the lighter man by a clear margin, but he is also the more explosive athlete, and the weight gap sets up a familiar heavyweight question: does the bigger man impose his size, or does the faster man make him pay for carrying it?

The stakes are plain for both men. Saturday is the first UFC main event of Cortes-Acosta's career, and the 35-year-old arrives needing a win after losing decisions to Alexander Volkov and Curtis Blaydes in his two most recent outings. Before those setbacks he had put together three straight knockout wins, including one over Derrick Lewis, and a victory over Walker would steady his place in the top six. Walker, 34, is contesting his fifth UFC main event, and he is still building at his new weight. The Brazilian, a former ranked light heavyweight, moved up to heavyweight and knocked out Mick Parkin with a knee in his debut in the division. A second straight heavyweight win over a ranked opponent would turn a successful experiment into a genuine run.
The co-main carries the title stakes
If the main event is about size, the co-main event is about the championship picture. Tatiana Suarez weighed in at 115.5 pounds and Virna Jandiroba hit the strawweight limit exactly at 116 pounds, and both women know what is on the line. Suarez is ranked second in the strawweight division and Jandiroba third, and the winner will have a strong claim on the next shot at champion Mackenzie Dern. Suarez, long talked about as a future champion, needs a win over a fellow top-three contender to stay at the front of the queue. Jandiroba, a former champion elsewhere who has ground her way into contention with grappling and pressure, can move past Suarez and into a title fight with a win on Saturday.

A short-notice headliner with real pressure
A rebuilt main event can look like a stopgap, but neither headliner can afford to see it that way. Cortes-Acosta has lost two in a row to elite heavyweights, and a third straight defeat, even on short notice and even against a dangerous opponent, would push him out of the top ten conversation. Walker, meanwhile, has rebuilt his career before, and he knows that a move to heavyweight only matters if it produces wins over ranked heavyweights. The short-notice nature of the booking cuts both ways: Cortes-Acosta had little time to prepare for a very different opponent than the one he expected, while Walker stepped in knowing that a win here accelerates everything. Both made weight without trouble, both faced off without incident, and neither has an excuse left for Saturday night.
What happens on Saturday night
Beyond the top two fights, the rest of the card weighed in clean and offers plenty to watch. Bantamweights Davey Grant and Elijah Smith both hit 135.5 pounds, a veteran nearing 41 against a Contender Series graduate looking to announce himself. Billy Elekana weighed 206 pounds against Lucas Fernando at 205 pounds, Priscila Cachoeira and Nina Milosevic both made 136 pounds, and flyweights Mitch Raposo and Marcos Degli came in at 125.5 and 126 pounds, with Degli making his promotional debut. On the prelims, Austin Bashi and Carlos Calderon both weighed 145.5 pounds, with Calderon fighting on four days' notice. Fourteen fights, 28 fighters on weight, and a main event with a 23-pound gap: the scales did their part on Friday, and now the fights do the talking on Saturday night at the Meta APEX.
