The League of Legends World Championship begins its 2026 play-in stage in Los Angeles on 15 October, with four teams contesting the last available place in the Swiss stage. Cloud9, Karmine Corp, FURIA and MVK Esports enter the preliminary bracket while the other main-event teams wait for the final qualifier.

## One place, with room to recover

Riot Games’ official primer sets out a best-of-five, double-elimination format for the play-ins. A first defeat does not automatically end a team’s tournament, but only one of the four entrants will progress.

The stage runs through 18 October. The official daily start is 11:00 Pacific Daylight Time, which converts to 18:00 UTC and 22:00 in Tbilisi. Readers in Asia will therefore see much of the programme on the following calendar day.

This edition focuses on the confirmed format and opening schedule. It does not assign a completed series result without a verified final score.

## The route through the championship

The Swiss stage is scheduled for 23-31 October in Allen, Texas. Teams need three match wins to qualify for the knockout rounds, while three losses eliminate them. The rules prohibit repeat opponents within the Swiss stage.

The knockout programme follows in November, with quarter-finals and semi-finals in Texas before the championship series at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on 14 November.

The early distinction is therefore between surviving play-ins and winning the wider tournament. A play-in victory provides entry to the next stage, not a shortcut into the knockout bracket. For all four teams, the first task is to manage a potentially long series and then recover quickly enough for the next match in the double-elimination schedule.
