# Three fights left: Moicano says his MMA career is ending

Renato Moicano has put a number on the end of his mixed martial arts career. Appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show on Monday, November 3, the Brazilian lightweight said he intends to fight out the three bouts remaining on his current UFC contract and then stop fighting MMA altogether. It was a decision about how he wants the final chapter to look before someone else writes it for him.

"To be completely honest with you, I want to finish my contract, and once I finish my contract, I don't want to fight MMA anymore," Moicano told Helwani. "I want to do boxing, like influencer boxing. I want to beat up people that don't know how to fight."

The timing matters. Moicano spoke just two days after his Halloween main-event loss to Tom Nolan at UFC Vegas 123, also billed as UFC Fight Night 292, at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 31. Nolan stopped him by third-round technical knockout at 1:28 of round three, after referee Dan Miragliotta stood the fighters up in round two while Moicano held Nolan's back with a body triangle. Monday's news, however, was not another argument about the stand-up. It was Moicano saying, without hedging, that his remaining MMA career has a fixed length.

## Why three fights is the line

Moicano explained the limit in terms of self-knowledge rather than bitterness. He said he is happy, but a fighter has to recognise when the tank is emptying and the love for the sport is changing. For him, the answer is those three fights, and he does not expect a new UFC offer to change it.

"I think after these three I'm done because [the UFC] is not gonna pay me enough," he said.

That separates two questions often blurred in retirement talk: whether a fighter can still compete, and whether the money, risk and grind still make sense. Moicano is not saying he has nothing left, only that he will spend what he has left on a defined schedule.

The comparison he chose made the point clearer: he does not want to become a cautionary tale like former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson, chasing another title run at 40 on a six-fight losing streak.

"I don't wanna be like Tony Ferguson. Eight fights, trying to be a champion, 40 years old, on a six-fight losing streak. I don't want that," Moicano said. "I'm happy. Sometimes you have to realize when you're done. You have to realize how much gas you have left in the tank, how much love for the sport you have. For me, it's these three more fights."

## What influencer boxing would mean

Ferguson's post-UFC path gives Moicano's next step a precedent, if not a promise: Ferguson left the UFC in 2024 after eight consecutive defeats and has since won three boxing bouts and become the Misfits middleweight champion, according to multiple reports. Moicano named no opponent and claimed no deal.

Moicano's description was blunt. He mentioned influencer-style shows, including the kind associated with streamer Adin Ross, and said he would box if paid half a million dollars or a million dollars. That is not a signed deal or a formal offer; it is the pay that would make the move worthwhile.

## The Halloween loss in context

The loss to Nolan is the backdrop, not the whole story. Moicano used his grappling early, took Nolan's back and threatened from a dominant position. The second-round stand-up changed the momentum, Nolan hurt him before the end of that round, and the Australian finished the fight in the third. The official result was a technical knockout by punches and elbows, improving Nolan to 12-1 overall and extending his winning run to six fights.

For Moicano, the defeat dropped his professional record to 21-8-1, with a 13-8 record in the UFC, and it was his third loss in his past four bouts. That run includes a submission win over Chris Duncan in April 2026, but also follows defeats to Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev, the latter in a short-notice title fight at UFC 311. Moicano joined the UFC in 2014 and has held rankings at featherweight and lightweight. This is not a newcomer reacting to one bad night.

## What happens next

The practical questions remain unanswered. Moicano's next opponent has not been announced, and his comments set no timetable for the three remaining fights. He also said he does not want to continue in other MMA promotions after the UFC, arguing that the UFC is MMA in the sense that matters to him.

That clarity is why Monday's interview is a development, not a fleeting post-fight reaction. Moicano attached his comments to a contract number, a reason, a comparison and a next step. He did not say he was retiring immediately, or that the Halloween result alone made the decision. He said he knows how much he has left, and he wants to use it on his own terms. If he follows through, each final fight will be read as part of a countdown: three fights left, and after them, he says, he is done with MMA.
