Amanda Serrano will take one last walk to the ring at home. Most Valuable Promotions announced on Wednesday, 28 October that the Puerto Rican star will defend her unified WBA and WBO featherweight titles against Australia's Skye Falzon on Saturday, 9 January 2027, at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, live on DAZN. The bout, billed as "The Last Walk," will close a professional career that began in 2009 and carried women's boxing into bigger arenas, bigger audiences and, Serrano has argued for years, fairer terms.

For Serrano, the setting is the point as much as the belts. "To close my career at home in Puerto Rico, in front of the people who have supported me from the beginning, means everything," she said. "On Saturday, January 9, I'm going to give the fans one final night to remember. This is The Last Walk of my boxing career."

## The fight: titles, terms and tickets

The championship will be contested at 126 pounds over 12 three-minute rounds, the equal championship format Serrano has championed rather than the 10 two-minute rounds still used for most women's title fights. In 2023, Serrano fought in the first women's unified world championship bout over 12 three-minute rounds, and later voluntarily gave up her WBC title rather than abandon her commitment to equal rules, Reuters reported.

Serrano, 38, enters at 50-4-1 with 32 knockouts. Falzon, also 38, is 12-2 with seven knockouts and is ranked fourth by the WBA. The promotion says additional bouts, including the co-main event, will be announced later. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, 3 November at noon Atlantic Standard Time via Ticketera, with a kickoff press conference that evening at 6:30 p.m. AST at DISTRITO T-Mobile in San Juan, featuring Serrano, Falzon and MVP founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian.

There is also a record on the line. Serrano's 32 knockouts leave her level with American great Christy Martin for the most knockouts by a female boxer. One more stoppage in San Juan would give Serrano the record outright, turning a farewell into a piece of history in its own right.

## Why this farewell carries weight

Serrano is a seven-division world champion and a Guinness World Record holder for winning titles across seven weight classes. She is also Puerto Rico's first and only undisputed world champion, a status that explains why a homecoming in San Juan resonates beyond one night's result. Her trainer and manager, Jordan Maldonado, has been central to that journey, and Serrano's announcement statement returned repeatedly to the people who travelled it with her.

"Boxing has been my life, and I never could have imagined the journey it would take me and my family on," Serrano said. "From the early days when women's boxing was fighting for recognition in small theater shows, to headlining Madison Square Garden in New York, reaching millions of fans around the world on the biggest shows, and helping open doors for the next generation of female fighters, Jordan and I always believed and I'm proud of everything we've accomplished. But none of it happened alone."

That Madison Square Garden history remains the defining image of her career. In 2022, Serrano and Ireland's Katie Taylor became the first women to headline the famous New York arena. Their rivalry became a trilogy, which Taylor swept, with the third meeting in July 2025 ending by majority decision at super lightweight. The January farewell is at featherweight, a different championship, but it is impossible to separate Serrano's legacy from the ground that trilogy broke.

Her most recent win also frames the occasion. In August 2026, Serrano beat Lucrecia Anabella Manzur by majority decision in Temecula, California, retaining the WBA featherweight belt and recording her 50th professional victory. Two judges scored that fight 116-112 for Serrano and the third had it 114-114. It was fought over 12 two-minute rounds, which makes January's return to three-minute rounds a deliberate statement about how Serrano wants to finish.

## Falzon is not there just to applaud

Falzon arrives as a clear underdog against one of the most decorated fighters in women's boxing, but the Australian has not been presented as a ceremonial opponent. She is a ranked contender, and in the promoter's release she made clear she intends to compete rather than simply take part in a celebration.

"I am stepping in to prove that I belong there and to give everything I have to create my own piece of boxing history," Falzon said.

That is the tension that makes the farewell compelling rather than merely sentimental. Serrano must still win a real title fight, against a younger-generation challenger with nothing to lose and everything to gain, while carrying the extra pressure of a record, a home crowd and a final bell she has already promised herself.

MVP founders Bidarian and Paul described the event as a celebration of an athlete who changed the sport. "Saturday, January 9, will mark the end of an extraordinary career inside the ring, but Amanda's legacy will live on through every female fighter who follows in her footsteps," they said.

If she wins, she leaves as champion, record-holder and homecoming hero. If Falzon shocks her, the farewell becomes something else entirely: a reminder that, even on a night built for goodbyes, boxing still has to be fought. Either way, 9 January in San Juan is now one of the first major dates on the 2027 boxing calendar.
