Week 8 delivered a Sunday that rewrote two divisions at once. The Denver Broncos stopped the Kansas City Chiefs on the goal line in the final seconds, the Buffalo Bills turned a record night for Josh Allen into a rout, and the Detroit Lions ended the last unbeaten run in the NFC North. Washington deepened Philadelphia's free fall, and Arizona sealed a comeback in overtime in Dallas.

## Broncos 28, Chiefs 24: five plays from the four-yard line

Denver trailed 24-13 in the fourth quarter before scoring 15 unanswered points to lead 28-24 with 1:56 remaining. Bo Nix finished 20 of 32 for 222 yards and two touchdowns, going 5 of 6 for 84 yards and a touchdown in the final quarter. Jonah Coleman broke a 51-yard catch-and-run and then scored on a five-yard run, capping a two-play, 56-yard drive that took only 35 seconds after Harrison Butker missed a 54-yard field goal.

Kansas City still had a chance to steal it. Emmett Johnson returned the ensuing kickoff 44 yards, Patrick Mahomes found Travis Kelce for 32 yards, and the Chiefs reached the Denver four-yard line with 35 seconds left. What followed was a goal-line stand for the season: Kenneth Walker III ran to the one, Mahomes threw incomplete, backup safety JL Skinner stopped Walker for no gain, and a false start pushed Kansas City back before Malcolm Roach sacked Mahomes on the final play with four seconds left.

The win lifted Denver to 6-2 and into first place in the AFC West, ahead of Kansas City at 5-2, and it was Denver's 15th consecutive one-score victory. Mahomes threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns, and Kansas City outgained Denver 399-294, but 11 penalties for 105 yards kept undoing the Chiefs' work. For a team that started 5-0, a second consecutive defeat is now a warning, not a blip.

## Bills 36, Ravens 10: Allen passes Kelly

Buffalo's win was less dramatic and, in its way, more significant. Josh Allen completed 21 of 34 passes for 289 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and added a rushing touchdown as the Bills beat Baltimore 36-10 to improve to 6-1. His 11-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore with 12:18 remaining was the 259th touchdown pass of his career including the postseason, breaking the franchise record held by Hall of Famer Jim Kelly.

Buffalo outscored Baltimore 20-3 after half-time, and James Cook III ran for 80 yards and a touchdown. The Ravens lost quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley to injury in the first half, with Jackson suffering a right thumb injury that required surgery and a move to injured reserve, and Huntley leaving with a right toe injury. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano was pressed into debut duty, and Baltimore finished with only 144 yards of offence.

## Lions 19, Vikings 15: Gibbs wears Minnesota down

Detroit handed Minnesota its first defeat of the season, winning 19-15 at Ford Field to improve to 5-2 while the Vikings fell to 6-1. Jahmyr Gibbs was the difference, rushing 23 times for 153 yards and a touchdown, including a 30-yard score in the third quarter, and Detroit finished with 230 rushing yards as a team. Jared Goff completed 18 of 25 passes for 176 yards, and his seven-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams with 4:35 remaining proved decisive after Minnesota had taken a 15-12 lead with 8:52 to play.

The winning drive told the story: five of its seven plays were Gibbs and Sione Vaki runs for 57 yards, setting up the play-action throw to Williams, and Detroit then ran out the clock. Minnesota managed only 266 yards and suffered five three-and-outs, including on its final possession.

## Commanders 27, Eagles 10; Cardinals 33, Cowboys 30 in overtime

Washington beat Philadelphia 27-10, handing the Eagles a sixth consecutive defeat and leaving them last in the NFC East. That sentence would have sounded absurd in September; in November it is the clearest sign of how quickly a season can unravel when losses compound.

Arizona's win in Dallas was wilder still. The Cardinals trailed by two touchdowns early in the fourth quarter, yet Gardner Minshew, in relief, threw three touchdowns, including a 13-yard strike to Michael Wilson with six seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 30. Chad Ryland then missed the extra point that would have won it, after converting his previous 58 attempts, but redeemed himself with a 42-yard field goal in overtime for a 33-30 victory. Tyler Allgeier's 191 scrimmage yards kept Arizona alive, and Dallas, which did not trail until the final kick, fell to 3-5.

## What Week 8 changed

The standings now tell a sharper story than the reputations that opened the season. Denver owns the AFC West lead, Buffalo owns the AFC's best record, and Detroit owns a head-to-head win over the team it is chasing. Kansas City and Minnesota both remain dangerous, but neither can now be described as unbeaten or untouchable. For Baltimore, Philadelphia and Dallas, the questions are harder: injuries explain part of Baltimore's night, but not a third straight defeat, and Dallas let a game it led for almost its entirety slip away twice.
