Barcelona Femení are the only perfect team left in the UEFA Women's Champions League. The holders hit eight at HB Køge on Thursday night, winning 8-0 in Denmark to reach the halfway stage of the league phase with nine points from three matches, two clear of OL Lyonnes, Arsenal and Chelsea.

It was Barcelona's third-biggest win in Champions League history, behind only the 9-0 victories over Benfica in 2022 and Hammarby two years later. They have scored 19 goals and conceded just two in this season's league phase, and on Thursday they did it in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,884 at the Capelli Sport Stadion in Herfølge.

The breakthrough came in the 12th minute, and it carried a milestone with it. Clàudia Pina was brought down inside the penalty area by Køge's Kenyan international Mwanalima Jereko, and after a lengthy VAR review the referee awarded a penalty. Caroline Graham Hansen converted from the spot on her 100th appearance in the competition, and from there Barcelona never looked back.

Graham Hansen herself struck the post as Barcelona pressed for a second, and it arrived in the 33rd minute. Pina played a deep ball through to Ewa Pajor, and the Polish striker slotted the ball between goalkeeper Alberte Vingum's legs. Pajor, like Graham Hansen, has now scored in all three of Barcelona's league-phase matches.

## A second-half flood

If the first half belonged to Barcelona's control, the second half belonged to their finishing. Esmee Brugts headed the third at the start of the second half, in the 54th minute, and the goals then came in a rush: captain Patri Guijarro scored with a back-heel following a corner in the 59th minute, and 18-year-old Clara Serrajordi fired in the fifth from the edge of the penalty area in the 62nd.

Substitute Kika Nazareth swept home the sixth in the 67th minute, and then Clàudia Pina took over. The winger, named UEFA's Player of the Match, scored the seventh in the 70th minute and completed the scoring in the 85th, after Kika had hit the crossbar with an outrageous overhead kick. Seven different Barcelona players scored in Denmark.

For Køge, the consolation is a place in the top 12: the Danish champions remain on three points despite the defeat, and the scale of the loss says more about Barcelona than about them. Køge's defence made several last-ditch tackles and blocks in the first half, and Vingum made big saves, but against this Barcelona side resistance only delayed the inevitable.

## The chasing pack

Barcelona's perfect record stands out all the more because the rest of Thursday's results were tight. Manchester City drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain at the Manchester Regional Arena, with PSG rescuing a point through a superb late leveller; City have now drawn all three of their league-phase matches. Juventus won 4-1 at Austria Wien, and Paris FC were held 1-1 at home by Häcken, who got off the mark thanks to a last-gasp leveller.

Wednesday's winners had already set the pace: Chelsea beat Roma 2-0, Arsenal beat Benfica 3-0 through an Alessia Russo hat-trick, and OL Lyonnes thrashed Inter 6-0. Barcelona, two points clear at the summit, are the only team still able to say they have won every game.

The scoring charts underline how the goals are shared. OL Lyonnes' Marie-Antoinette Katoto leads the competition with five goals, but a Barcelona trio — Graham Hansen, Pajor and Pina — sit one behind on four, with Pina's brace in Denmark taking her level. Graham Hansen also leads the assists chart in the early running, with three.

## What comes next

Barcelona's next test is the one the league phase has been building towards: they host Arsenal, one of the three teams two points behind them, while Køge visit OH Leuven. Win that, and the holders will have one foot in the top four and a direct route to the quarter-finals.

Head coach Pere Romeu will be pleased with more than the scoreline. A clean sheet, a milestone goal for Graham Hansen, a first-half lead built on patience rather than panic, and a second half in which five different players scored — that is the profile of a team defending a title rather than merely holding one.

Køge, meanwhile, can take something from the occasion itself: a sold-out stadium, a first-half spell in which they forced Barcelona to work for their openings, and a top-12 place still intact. They ran into the strongest women's team in the world on a night when that team scored eight. Most teams in this competition would have fared no better.
