PSG Edge Barcelona 4-2 in Champions League Thriller to Stay Perfect
Four goals in a frantic 14-minute second-half burst settled a six-goal Parc des Princes classic as Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2, preserving their perfect Champions League record and inflicting the Catalans' first defeat of the season.

PSG stay perfect after Parc des Princes classic

Paris Saint-Germain remain top of the UEFA Champions League table after a pulsating 4-2 victory over Barcelona at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, a matchday-three clash between the competition's last two unbeaten heavyweights that lived up to every ounce of its billing. Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz scored for the two-time reigning European champions, who stayed perfect on nine points with a +9 goal difference and handed the Catalans their first defeat of the season.
Both sides arrived in Paris on six points and level on goal difference, sitting first and second in the league phase. By full time, PSG had pulled clear at the summit ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, while Barcelona dropped to fifth after losing for the first time this campaign.
Injuries strike before Doué breaks the deadlock

The tone was set early by a pair of first-half injuries. PSG lost Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele after 19 minutes to an apparent hamstring problem, the Frenchman pulling up while dribbling in open field and reaching for the back of his left leg, with Ferran Torres coming on to replace him. Barcelona suffered a blow of their own in the 26th minute when Dani Olmo was forced off after a 50-50 challenge with Vitinha, with Fermin Lopez entering midfield.
the hosts outshooting Barcelona 21-7 in the first half with an xG of 1.58 to 1.21. The breakthrough finally came in the 38th minute when Desire Doue, allowed a yard of space at the top of the penalty area by three retreating Barcelona defenders, drove a fierce low shot beyond Joan Garcia.
Barcelona's task was not helped by the absence of Rodri from the starting XI. The 30-year-old midfielder was rested with what was described as a minor muscle overload, 13 months after tearing his ACL, leaving 19-year-old Marc Bernal to fill the biggest midfield assignment in European football.
Five second-half goals, four in 14 minutes
The second half delivered one of the most entertaining passages of football seen anywhere this season. Nineteen-year-old La Masia right-back Xavi Espart marked his full Champions League debut with a stunning equaliser in the 55th minute, combining one-two with Lopez near midfield before driving the length of the pitch to finish.
PSG retook the lead in the 72nd minute when Lucas Hernandez rose to head home a corner, his first goal since February 2024. The advantage lasted seven minutes: Lamine Yamal, who had caused trouble all evening, sped past Warren Zaire-Emery — on the pitch barely 30 seconds — and smashed a superb solo strike into the top corner to make it 2-2 in the 79th.
Barcelona were level for barely two minutes. Vitinha thumped home from outside the box in the 81st, and when Hansi Flick's side pushed for another equaliser, Achraf Hakimi broke down the left and crossed for Fabian Ruiz to tap in at the back post in the 86th. From 2-2 to 4-2 in seven minutes, the champions simply had one wave too many.
Bench steps up as stars limp off
Despite losing Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos, Luis Enrique's side found another gear late on.
"I think we witnessed two teams playing incredible football, such attacking football. We showed our level. It was a very competitive match," Enrique said. "It was hard to keep control of the game. It's only three more points, but it's always positive to defeat such a quality side. The players that came off the bench were excellent and gave us a real boost. We are very happy."
The PSG manager praised his players' defensive effort against a Barcelona side averaging over four goals a game, and credited the Parc des Princes atmosphere with sustaining his team's intensity: "We showed our style, we were aggressive, we used the support of our fans; that makes it easier to press and be intense."
Flick admits the better team won
Hansi Flick was honest in defeat, conceding the title at stake even at this stage of the league phase. "It was a fantastic game from both teams. PSG showed they are better than us," he admitted. "They have a lot of quality in transition. Also, in the final 10 minutes we weren't fresh, although that's not an excuse. We didn't have the best preparation for this game. We have to analyse it and do things better."
The timing could hardly be worse for Barcelona, who travel to Real Madrid for El Clasico on Sunday with questions over Olmo's fitness and Rodri's recovery. PSG, meanwhile, continue a remarkable run: back-to-back European titles followed by a flawless start to this season's competition, with one victory — against Manchester City a week earlier — already under their belt before this statement win.
Goals everywhere on matchday three
The nine Tuesday fixtures produced 40 goals in total. Phil Foden scored a hat-trick as Manchester City beat AEK Athens 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland rested as an unused substitute. Liverpool fought back from 2-0 down to beat Villarreal 4-3 at Anfield, Alexis Mac Allister scoring twice before Florian Wirtz struck the winner.
Elsewhere, Napoli edged Bodo/Glimt 4-3 with Scott McTominay scoring twice, AS Roma beat Slovan Bratislava 4-0, Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 at debutants Sabah, PSV Eindhoven won 1-0 at Porto, and Fenerbahce drew 2-2 with Slavia Prague after a 90th-minute equaliser from Pavel Kacor. Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez levelled in a 1-1 draw at VfB Stuttgart, who finished with ten men after Morten Hjulmand's 64th-minute red card.
