Napoli and Lazio shared the points in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday, 8 November 2026, in a Serie A matchday 11 meeting that left the leaders still unbeaten at the top and gave the home side a small but badly needed lift. Davide Frattesi gave Lazio a first-half lead with a low finish in the 28th minute, and Alfonso Pedraza turned a cross into his own net three minutes after the restart to level the score. Neither side could find a winner in a frantic finish, and the draw ended Lazio's six-game winning streak without ending their stay at the summit. Lazio moved to 29 points, two clear of Roma before Inter hosted Como later on Sunday evening, while Napoli stayed on 15 points. For Napoli, it was the first time this season they had taken anything from a Serie A game after going behind, although they are still without a clean sheet in eight games.

A home side under pressure meets a team in full flight

Napoli went into the game under heavy pressure. Massimiliano Allegri's side had lost to Juventus and Porto before this match, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis visited the training ground on Friday, and sporting director Giovanni Manna described the situation before kick-off as unacceptable. Lazio arrived in Naples having won their last six games, and their coach, Gennaro Gattuso, was back at his former club. No Lazio supporters were allowed to travel because the fixture had been classed as high-risk, so the visitors had to make their own noise on the pitch.

Lazio strike first on the counter

Lazio made the stronger start and could have led inside two minutes, when Gustav Isaksen fired just wide. The Danish winger tested Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic again in the ninth minute, only for a flying save to keep out his curling shot, and the goalkeeper then clawed away a header from Josip Sutalo after a corner. The breakthrough came from the kind of fast counter that has defined Lazio's winning run. Tijjani Noslin led the break, drove forward and slipped the ball through to Frattesi, who arrived late in the box and drilled a low shot past Milinkovic-Savic. It was Frattesi's fourth goal of the season, and it rewarded Lazio for a first half in which they had looked the more confident side. Lazio lost Sutalo to a muscular injury soon afterwards, and Napoli began to grow into the game. They should have equalised in the 42nd minute, when Mathias Olivera's cutback found Rasmus Hojlund two yards out, only for Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas to scramble the Dane's effort off the line.

An own goal changes the afternoon

Gattuso took off Nuno Tavares at half-time, and his replacement had a costly start to the second half. Three minutes after the restart, Noa Lang crossed from the left, and Pedraza, stretching to stop Scott McTominay volleying the ball home, turned it into his own net. The goal changed the mood inside the stadium at once. Napoli, who had offered little in the first half, suddenly believed the game was there to be won, and Lazio had to defend a lead they no longer held. Napoli pushed hard for a winner, but Mandas was outstanding. He saved from McTominay at close range and denied Kevin De Bruyne in a one-on-one, before Diogo Leite cleared the loose ball off the line. Olivera also lifted a good chance over the bar, and the game became more open after both coaches went to their benches. Mandas kept out a low shot from substitute Lorenzo Lucca, while at the other end Milinkovic-Savic saved from Matteo Cancellieri, who had replaced Frattesi in the 78th minute to jeers from the home crowd.

Two goalkeepers decide the closing stages

The final minutes were end-to-end, with both sides searching for a late winner and neither willing to settle for the draw. Four added minutes were played, and Napoli finished the game the stronger side but could not find the goal their second-half pressure seemed to deserve. The match statistics told the story of a contest neither side dominated for long: possession was split 49 percent to Napoli and 51 percent to Lazio, both teams had 15 total shots and six shots on target, and both won six corners. That balance was fitting, because the game had swung twice, first towards Lazio through Frattesi's finish, then towards Napoli through Pedraza's own goal, and neither swing was ever decisive. The draw was an honest reflection of a match in which the goalkeepers made the decisive interventions after the goals had been scored.

What the draw means for both sides

For Lazio, the result keeps them unbeaten and top of Serie A on 29 points, two clear of Roma. The end of the six-game winning streak will matter less than the fact that they left a difficult away ground without a defeat, even after losing Sutalo and Tavares to injury during the game. For Napoli, the point is a lifeline for Allegri, but it does not settle the questions around his team. Taking a point after going behind is a first this season and a sign of resilience, yet the absence of a clean sheet in eight games shows that the defensive problems remain. Napoli created the better late chances, so they can take encouragement from the second half, but encouragement is not the same as a win, and a home draw against the leaders will only ease the pressure briefly. Both teams leave Naples with something, and neither leaves with everything it wanted.
