UFC Fight Night 292 preview: Moicano vs Nolan headline a Halloween card in Las Vegas
Renato Moicano meets rising Tom Nolan in a five-round lightweight main event at the Meta APEX, with Randy Brown facing unbeaten Jacobe Smith and a catchweight change on the prelims after Francis Marshall misses weight.

A Halloween headliner with real lightweight stakes

Renato Moicano and Tom Nolan meet on Saturday night in Las Vegas with more than a main-event slot on the line. For Moicano, a former lightweight title challenger, this is a chance to hold his place near the top of a crowded division. For Nolan, it is the biggest assignment of his career so far: a first UFC main event, a first five-round fight, and a test against an opponent who has spent years facing the division's best.
UFC Fight Night 292, also billed as UFC Vegas 123, takes place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Prelims stream on Paramount+ at 5 p.m. ET, followed by the main card at 8 p.m. ET. The card features 12 fights, with the lightweight headliner scheduled for five rounds.
Both headliners cleared Friday's weigh-ins: Moicano at 156 pounds and Nolan at 155.5 pounds. The rest of the card largely followed suit, with one notable exception on the prelims that changed the terms of a featured bout.
Moicano's experience against Nolan's momentum

Moicano arrives at 21-7-1 overall and 13-7 in the UFC. He returned to winning ways in April 2026 with a second-round rear-naked choke over Chris Duncan. Since moving up to lightweight in March 2020, he is 8-3 in the division, and his seven rear-naked choke wins in UFC competition are tied for the third-most in company history, behind Demian Maia with nine and Michael Chiesa with eight.
That grappling threat shapes his fights. Moicano is an orthodox fighter with a muay Thai base, comfortable pressuring on the feet, but his most reliable finish has come from scrambles and taking the back. Against a taller striker, his wrestling entries will decide whether he can impose that game or is forced to fight at distance.
Nolan, at 11-1 overall and 5-1 in the UFC, brings youth, size and momentum. The 26-year-old stands 6-foot-3 and has won five straight since losing his UFC debut to Nikolas Motta in January 2024, a 63-second stoppage that now looks like an outlier. His decision win over Fares Ziam in June 2026 was the biggest of his career so far and showed a more measured kickboxing game built on length and kicks.
Nolan trains at City Kickboxing in New Zealand and fights southpaw, creating an open-stance matchup against the orthodox Moicano. Footwork and lead-leg kicks could decide who lands clean first. Nolan has power, but he has also won rounds without a finish. The question is whether that patience holds over five rounds against an opponent who turns small mistakes into fight-ending positions.
The co-main event: Brown's test against an unbeaten Smith
The welterweight co-main pairs Randy Brown with unbeaten Jacobe Smith after a late change. Brown, 20-8 overall and 14-8 in the UFC, was originally scheduled to face Carlos Leal, who withdrew through injury. Smith, 13-0 overall and 4-0 in the UFC, stepped in as the short-notice replacement. Both made weight at 170.5 pounds.
Brown is a 10-year UFC veteran with 13 professional finishes, but he enters on a two-fight losing streak and needs a reset. His length, jab and experience in longer fights remain real assets.
Smith has built his unbeaten record on finishing ability, with 11 finishes in 13 wins. A victory over a recognised veteran such as Brown would be the clearest statement of his career: the established name trying to stop a rising run, and the prospect trying to prove that run belongs at this level.
A catchweight change on the prelims
The featured preliminary bout also changed at the scales. Dakota Hope faces Francis Marshall at a catchweight of 148 pounds after Marshall weighed in at 148 pounds, two pounds over the featherweight non-title limit. Hope weighed in at 145.5 pounds, and Marshall was fined 20 percent of his purse, which goes to Hope.
Hope, 11-2 overall and 0-1 in the UFC, took the fight on short notice after Gaston Bolanos withdrew with an eye injury suffered in training. Marshall, 10-3 overall and 4-3 in the UFC, was the only fighter on the 24-fighter card to miss weight. Hope gains a financial concession; Marshall must now justify the miss with his performance.
The rest of the card and how to watch
Beyond the top three bouts, the main card features Ode Osbourne against Cody Durden, Yana Santos against Luana Santos, and Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani against Farman Hasanov. The prelims include Julian Erosa against Jeong-Yeong Lee, Zachary Reese against Mickey Gall, Nick Klein against Joseph Kropschot, Talita Alencar against Piera Rodriguez, Lucia Szabova against Tainara Lisboa, and Rodrigo Sezinando against Theodor Berggren.
That depth is typical of an APEX Fight Night: established names near the top, prospects and short-notice replacements below, and several fights where one win could reshape what comes next. The full card streams on Paramount+ on Saturday.
Prediction: the grappling edge is the deciding question
Prediction, not a result: this preview leans towards Moicano's experience and grappling being decisive if he can close the distance and threaten takedowns. Nolan's size, striking variety and five-fight winning streak make him a live threat on the feet, especially early, but five rounds against a former title challenger is a different test. If Nolan keeps the fight standing and avoids extended grappling, he has a clear path to an upset. If Moicano turns it into a grappling contest, his choke record suggests he needs only one clean opening. Either way, Saturday should answer whether Nolan's rise is ready for the lightweight elite, or whether Moicano still belongs in that conversation.
