FURIA and BetBoom to Contest Thunderpick World Championship 2026 Grand Final
FURIA swept Aurora and BetBoom outlasted Falcons in Saturday's semifinals, setting up a best-of-five rematch for the $1 million Thunderpick World Championship 2026 title in Malta on Sunday.

Semifinal Saturday sets the stage

FURIA and BetBoom Team will meet in the grand final of the Thunderpick World Championship 2026 on Sunday, October 18, closing out the $1 million Counter-Strike 2 event in Malta with a rematch four days in the making. Both teams earned their places on Saturday, October 17: FURIA swept Aurora Gaming 2-0 in the first semifinal, while BetBoom Team eliminated Team Falcons 2-1 in a three-map thriller.
The final, a best-of-five, begins at 11:00 AM ET (5:00 PM CEST / 4:00 PM BST). The winner takes a combined $500,000 in player and club prize allocations from the event's $1 million prize pool; the runner-up receives $250,000. Aurora and Falcons contest the third-place decider earlier on Sunday for $100,000.
It is a rematch of the Group B opener played on October 14, when FURIA beat BetBoom 2-0. The Brazilian side is chasing a second consecutive Thunderpick title; BetBoom has the chance to avenge that opening defeat and deny the Brazilians back-to-back championships.
FURIA's ruthless march

FURIA has been the tournament's most convincing team. It opened Group B on October 14 with a 2-0 win over BetBoom, taking Ancient 13-10 and Mirage 13-9 behind 40 kills from Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato. A day later, FURIA defeated Legacy 2-1 in the group winners' match, dropping Cache 10-13 before closing out Inferno 13-5 and Mirage 13-8 to advance directly to the semifinals.
Saturday's semifinal against Aurora was FURIA's most composed performance yet. The Brazilians took Dust2 13-8 and Inferno 13-10, with KSCERATO posting another 38 kills across the two maps. FURIA reached the grand final with three series wins, no series losses and a 6-1 map record — the only map it has dropped all tournament came against Legacy.
The squad knows exactly what it takes to lift this trophy. In the 2025 Thunderpick grand final, Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo and his teammates recovered from a 0-2 deficit to beat Natus Vincere 3-2, and KSCERATO was named the event's MVP. The current roster — FalleN, Yuri "yuurih" Santos, KSCERATO, Mareks "YEKINDAR" Galinskis and Danil "molodoy" Golubenko — has carried that pedigree into Malta.
BetBoom's road of comebacks
If FURIA has been ruthless, BetBoom has been relentless. The Russian side had no margin for error after its opening loss to FURIA, and every one of its three victories since has gone the full three-map distance.
On October 15, BetBoom came back to beat PARIVISION 2-1, losing Ancient 10-13 before winning Anubis 13-4 and Mirage 13-7. The following day, it defeated Legacy 2-1 for the group's second semifinal spot in the most dramatic series of the group stage: the Russians recovered from a 4-10 deficit to take Nuke 16-13 in overtime, lost Dust2 11-13, then won the Mirage decider 13-11. Kirill "Magnojez" Rodnov produced 62 kills across the three maps, including 25 on the decider.
Saturday's semifinal against Falcons followed the same script. After a 5-13 loss on Anubis, BetBoom forced a deciding map by winning Dust2 16-14 in overtime and then took Mirage to complete the 2-1 comeback. BetBoom's tournament record stands at three series wins and one series loss with a 6-5 map record — every victory a 2-1 grind.
A rivalry with a clear edge
Sunday's final will be the fourth meeting between these teams in 2026, and FURIA has won all three previous encounters by 2-0 scorelines: at the IEM Cologne Major in June, at ESL Pro League Season 24 on October 3, and in the Thunderpick group stage on October 14. It will, however, be their first best-of-five meeting of the year — a format that rewards depth and composure across up to five maps.
The latest meeting was closer than the 2-0 score suggests. BetBoom led 8-4 at halftime on both Ancient and Mirage before FURIA stormed back to win each map. The Russians will take encouragement from how repeatedly they have recovered from slow starts in Malta, and from the form of Magnojez, who also starred with 62 kills in the group decider against Legacy.
What's at stake in Malta
Beyond the $500,000 top prize, the final is a statement opportunity. FURIA can confirm its status as the dominant force of the Thunderpick circuit with back-to-back titles. BetBoom, which has beaten PARIVISION, Legacy and Falcons in succession, can cap a remarkable underdog run by toppling the one team it has not yet solved in 2026.
The event, staged at the BLAST Arena Studios in Attard, Malta, featured eight teams in two double-elimination groups, with the top two from each advancing to the single-elimination playoffs. Virtus.pro withdrew before the event because of visa issues and was replaced by Ninjas in Pyjamas. The third-place decider between Aurora Gaming and Team Falcons opens Sunday's program at 1:30 PM CEST, before FURIA and BetBoom walk out for the grand final.
