Dubai Basketball storm past Bayern Munich 107-91 for third straight EuroLeague win
Mfiondu Kabengele's 24 points and a record-setting 63-36 first half powered Dubai to a 107-91 EuroLeague win over Bayern Munich in Munich, lifting the club to 5-2 and fifth place.

MUNICH — Dubai Basketball is done being a curiosity. On Thursday night at SAP Garden, Xavi Pascual's side dismantled Bayern Munich 107-91 in Round 7 of the EuroLeague regular season, a victory constructed on a record-setting first half and protected with 20 minutes of composed game management. It is Dubai's third consecutive EuroLeague win, lifting the club to 5-2 and fifth place in the standings, while Bayern slid to 2-5 and 17th.
A first half for the club archives

The tone was set from the opening tip. Pascual started Filip Petrusev and Mfiondu Kabengele together in the frontcourt alongside Dwayne Bacon, and the big pairing combined for 18 points and eight rebounds in the first quarter alone. Dubai surged to a 29-14 lead after 10 minutes, exploiting its size inside while McKinley Wright IV buried back-to-back three-pointers to push the margin out to 15-5 and force an early Bayern timeout.
Bayern found brief defensive rhythm at the start of the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 34-23 behind Duane Washington's scoring. The response was emphatic and immediate. Davis Bertans connected from long range, Elie Okobo added a step-back three-pointer, and a Kabengele block at the rim ignited a transition alley-oop finished by Jaron Blossomgame. Dubai outscored the hosts 34-22 in the period to take a 63-36 halftime lead — club records for points scored and margin in a single half.
Kabengele runs the show

Kabengele, the Canadian center, was the game's dominant force from the first possession. He reached double figures quickly, punished every switch inside, and finished with 24 points and seven rebounds to earn Dubai's MVP nomination. His presence warped Bayern's defense all night: doubling him freed the perimeter, while single coverage invited punishment at the rim.
Okobo orchestrated everything around him. The French guard scored 17 points and handed out nine assists without a single turnover, while Wright added 15 points and five assists against just one giveaway. Dubai finished with a club-record 28 assists against only seven turnovers, shot 13-for-29 from three-point range and converted 64.1 percent of its two-point attempts. It was, as Pascual described it, "almost perfect" basketball — the kind of offensive precision that wins on the road in the EuroLeague.
Petrusev's early production was just as important as the headline numbers. Starting next to Kabengele gave Dubai twin towers that Bayern simply could not match physically, and Blossomgame's two-way energy — the alley-oop finish, timely rotations, help defense — knitted the whole performance together. This was a roster playing to its collective strengths rather than leaning on one star.
Bayern's third-quarter fightback
Credit to the hosts: Bayern refused to capitulate. The third quarter briefly belonged to Munich, with Oscar da Silva and Johannes Voigtmann leading a surge that produced 31 points in the period. Da Silva's one-handed dunk sparked a 7-0 run that cut the deficit to 73-57, and Bayern connected on six of eight three-point attempts after halftime.
For a few minutes, SAP Garden believed in a comeback. But Dubai weathered the storm with the poise of a far older club. The visitors steadied the offense, tightened the defensive rotations, and entered the final quarter ahead 82-67. Then, when Kosta Kondic — scoreless through three quarters — added seven quick points to reopen the cushion, the momentum swung back decisively. Okobo's three-pointer with seven minutes remaining stretched the lead to 93-72, effectively ending Bayern's hopes.
"A solid game in defence and offence," Pascual said afterwards. "Excellent in the first 20 minutes, almost perfect. Then we were a bit softer, Bayern were better than us. In the end, we did a good job of controlling and managing the victory."
No longer an expansion story
Dubai's start to the 2026-27 EuroLeague campaign can no longer be framed as a novelty act. Five wins in seven games, a third straight road victory, and a fifth-place standing put the club firmly in the playoff conversation barely two months into the season. The combination of frontcourt size, unselfish ball movement and dynamic guard play gives Pascual multiple ways to win, and the second-half composure in Munich showed a maturity that young clubs are not supposed to possess this quickly.
The numbers underline how complete the performance was. Twenty-eight assists to seven turnovers is elite ball security; 64.1 percent inside the arc reflects total paint control; and the Okobo-Wright backcourt combining for 14 assists against one turnover is championship-level guard play. Bayern's Washington led his team with 17 points, but the German side had no answer for Dubai's physicality or its passing.
For Bayern, the defeat deepens an early-season crisis. At 2-5 and 17th in the table, the German champions must find answers quickly — and the schedule offers no mercy, with Barcelona visiting SAP Garden on Tuesday. For Dubai, the road continues on Saturday in the ABA League against KK Bosna in Sarajevo, before Paris Basketball visit on Tuesday and Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv arrive in Round 9. If the first half in Munich is the benchmark, the rest of Europe has been warned.
