Stephen Curry needed only one half to remind everyone why the Golden State Warriors are suddenly the hottest team in the NBA. The two-time MVP scored 22 of his 29 points after halftime on Thursday night, 5 November, as Golden State overturned a tied game at the break and beat the Miami Heat 120-100 at Chase Center in San Francisco. The victory was the Warriors' sixth in a row, a remarkable recovery from an 0-3 start to the 2026-27 season, and it lifted them to 6-3. Curry also passed Oscar Robertson for 17th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list, reaching the milestone with a three-pointer in the first quarter.

A slow start, then the switch flips

Nothing about the opening suggested a comfortable evening for the home side. Miami started aggressively and built a double-digit lead in the opening minutes, taking advantage of Golden State's slow offensive start to lead 29-26 after the first quarter. Curry, in particular, looked out of rhythm: he made just one of his first eight field-goal attempts and was two of ten from the field at halftime, with only seven points to his name. For a team so often carried by its veteran superstar, that is usually the point at which trouble begins.

Golden State, however, refused to fall behind. Draymond Green kept the offence moving with sharp passing, finding cutters and punishing Miami whenever the defence overcommitted to Curry, while Will Richard provided an early spark after receiving his second start of the season, scoring the Warriors' opening two baskets, both created by Green assists. The second quarter stayed competitive, and Curry finally found the scoreboard with a transition lay-up off a long Green pass, giving Golden State its first lead with 1:38 left in the half. Miami answered, and the teams went into the break tied at 53-53, a scoreline that flattered the visitors.

The third quarter that decided it

Whatever was said in the home locker room at halftime worked immediately, even if Miami briefly moved ahead 61-58 in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Golden State answered with an 18-3 run that turned the game on its head, and Curry was at the centre of it, scoring 14 points in the period on four-of-five shooting, including three three-pointers. The Warriors outscored the Heat 38-23 in the quarter, turning a tied game into a 91-76 lead, and the 26-9 surge exposed Miami's difficulties defending the perimeter and controlling possession once Golden State raised the pace.

Curry finished with 29 points on nine-of-19 shooting, including six makes from 12 three-point attempts, and converted all five of his free throws. He added four assists and did not commit a turnover in 28 minutes, and he watched the closing stages from the bench once the result was secure. It was the latest chapter in a productive stretch that has also included a dramatic comeback against the Los Angeles Lakers, and it underlined a familiar truth about this team: even on a night when Curry starts two of ten, Golden State now has enough around him to stay in the game until he finds his range.

Green, Lendeborg and the bench

If Curry supplied the fireworks, Draymond Green supplied the structure. The veteran forward finished with a season-high 11 assists, repeatedly finding cutters and keeping the offence flowing without asking Curry to create every basket himself. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg added 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals, while Georges Niang scored 13 points from the bench. Golden State's reserves combined for 53 points, a depth that mattered on a night when the starters needed time to find their rhythm, and the Warriors also forced 19 Miami turnovers.

Miami's night: bright starts, fading finish

Miami's leading performers produced respectable individual numbers but could not match Golden State's collective output after halftime. Davion Mitchell led the Heat with 22 points and eight assists, while Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded 20 points and 14 rebounds and Bam Adebayo added 18 points and ten rebounds, giving the visitors two double-doubles on the night. Antetokounmpo, however, scored only four points in the second half as Golden State's defence tightened around him, and the Heat's early offensive control faded as the Warriors increased their pressure.

There was also an emotional subplot. Klay Thompson returned to Chase Center for the first time as a member of the Miami Heat, facing the franchise with which he built one of the greatest shooting partnerships in NBA history alongside Curry. Thompson finished with 11 points on three-of-ten shooting, but the night belonged to his former backcourt partner. The defeat left Miami at 3-6, still searching for consistency early in the season, and the Heat will look to regroup when they visit the Sacramento Kings on Sunday.

A milestone and what comes next

For Golden State, the win carried a significance beyond the standings. Curry's first-quarter three-pointer moved him past Robertson into 17th on the league's all-time scoring list, another marker in a remarkable career. The Warriors, now tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the longest winning streak in the NBA, host the Orlando Magic on Saturday before facing the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, and then begin a five-game road trip on Wednesday, 11 November. If the third quarter against Miami is any guide, the teams waiting for them will not be facing the side that started 0-3.
